trouble finding a place to rent?

i think in NC if and WHEN you get that job...my daughter told me...she will give me a list for you of where to live and she told me there are PLENTY of people inthe same boat as you.

she also, mentioned to me, that you can't be fooled by some areas...so LOL!! she wanted me to make certain i told you that and when you get the YES call...she'll pass on some info for you..

and you will NOT need 6 months in advance. in NC they use craiglist a lot!

Tobee this is very reassuring to me! Every time I see a thread like this I get a sick feeling, since we will be rental searching with several months history of unpaid cc bills and house payments. Will not have filed bk yet. I look on craigslist for Charlotte NC a great deal, just to see what the rental rates are. They are much higher than my area here in OH, but I know considerable less than many places.

But I don't care if I have to live in a tent, as long as I can be near my four granddaughters, lol.

First apologies for triple posts - I had browser issues...

Actually it would be somewhere around Durham/Chapel Hill...I've been looking online - we'd need a 3 bedroom, and it's cheaper than where we are now...and a bit of driving out into the country I've even seen 3beds for around $1000 and change...of course I feel horrible because I feel like I'm running away from my troubles...kids have to move school, etc. friends, job (my son's and spouse's)....we'll see!!!

From what I have seen, renting is not hard. Most apartments will ask for double deposit- some homeowners will. Just be upfront, meet in person.

Well at least we will be in the same state, lol. Please don't feel horrible, or that you are running away from your troubles! Bankruptcy gives us a fresh start, and what better way to do that than to start somewhere new? My problem is paying $1000 for rent .... I can afford it, and will need to for my Schedule J numbers. My current house payment is $1000. I have paid it and not minded that it's all going to interest. But psychologically, paying that for rent bugs me in a way it never did for a house payment, lol. Even tho I don't really know if I ever want to buy a house again. I guess I just need to get used to my new normal. Once the bk is over, we plan to move to a less expensive rental tho. You too!!!! By the way - re running away...it's just that my son's got only 1 more year HS left, he has a job, etc...sigh - oh well - we'll see. But then I won't miss my 2.5 hour commutes!!!

Well I have good news for you re: the 2.5 hour commute! I saw somewhere that any commute over 1 hour needed to pay an extra $40k a year to make you happy. So think how happy you will be without that commute, lol. My DH drives 1.5 hours each way, so if you subtract the drive time, he actually could get a job locally and make the same amount of money, if you place a value on your time. Luckily he has a company van and his wonderful boss pays the gas. This same boss is going to help him get a job when we move to NC. I gotta admit, I am terrified about moving at our ages (54 & 55), just because of the job aspect. He's worked at the same place for over 10 years, and I know they would keep him on till he died in harness. So very scary to trust our fate to a new boss.

It's hard on your children, I know. We are retired military and moved all over the US during our time in the Navy, with our son and daughter. Sometimes I will think, "Oh, life would have turned out so much better if we had just stayed put in one place".....but just like in all those time travel movies, you change one thing and your whole future changes. I try to find a purpose, and a bright side in everything that happens to us. Although sometimes, especially these times, it is hard

Thank you so much for your comment - it helps more than you know!!! Well, just this morning commute was 2.5 hours....

My only concern is that I applied to this place 1 year ago - three days after I was laid off...:-) They had things on "hold." Oh well, will see...I'll probably use up less gas tomorrow than I did/do today!!!!!
