Got HAMP papers from BofA - 2 years after I tried to get one

BUT - they are from Urban Lending Solution with Bof A information.

    "IMPORTANT DISCLOSURES
This information is from a debt collector attempting to collect a debt. Any onformation you provide Urban Lending Solutions will be sued for that purpose
    ."

The thing is, I still haven't filed and currently have the money in th ebank for a lawyer. I am on a temporary employment postion and am waiting for it to end before filing so I will be on unemployment again. The position can't hire me because it is with the City (Government) and they have to hire those that have taken a test, which I missed hearing about.

Anyway, BofA has my information 5 times over from when I tried to get a loan mod so this seems really screwy to me.

I'm supposed to respond via a prepaid fed-ex envelope they sent along with their paperwork, by January 7th.

A whole bunch of me says this is a scam to see if I have money. What do you think?

Background: Unemployed Oct 2008, had part time temp job for 6 months, then unemployed again for a year. Quit paying everything June 2010 on the advice of a Financial adviser (through the city). Started the current temp position Sept 27 - may last through February, may not. It's a day to day thing.

Haven't heard more than the usual calls from BofA and Chase, and acceleration notices in September. Nothing on Sheriff's sale yet.

House is underwater - owe 76,000 on 1st, 26th on 2nd. Do not plan to keep it as it is currently valued at 85,000 for taxes and 55,000 by real estate CMA. But, like everyone else who bought a house, will still be a wrench to give it up.

Bank of America contracts with outside companies to do initial loan mod applications. Its escaping me right now, but I got similar papers from a different BofA contractor much earlier in the year. Its probably legit, but whether you should even bother is another question.

Sounds legit. I signed up for this program and they do send you a packet by fed ex. They will keep sending them if they don't hear from you. Sounds like they want to do a modification.

dneil - How did it go? Did you get the mod? My BS barometer went up is why I ask. My employment situation is still so risky - how could they take the chance? I know my employer is going to keep me as long as they legally can as I am a good worker but they can't hire me as it is government and they have to follow the rules. You have to take a test and I missed the last testing (didn't check City website unfortunately) so have to wait til it comes up again.

I worry because they ask about your bank accounts and after finally having enough for a lawyer, don't want them knowing I have any money. Am I being paranoid?
