    State sponsored foreclosure mediation

My state has a foreclosure mediation program in place where all parties have a face to face meeting with a mediator before the property goes to sheriff sale.

Can anyone shed some light on this process?

Besides slowing things down a little I'm wondering if these mediations are having any positive outcomes for homeowners.

I'd to know also as my state (Maine) has the same program. Under the law (in Maine) the foreclosure lawsuit must include a "legal answer" to the lawsuit requesting the mediation along with an envelope addressed to the court. All we do is fill out our name and send it to the court. Pretty interesting. I'd imagine the delay and outcome varies wildly from state to state.
