Forclosure takes a very long time

Just to give you all an idea how long foreclosure really takes (in the state of Michigan), read on.
November of 2004 I missed my 1st mortgage payment on the house. January 14th we filed bankruptcy and indicated that we would be surrendering the property. We moved out of the house end of March, a month before our discharge, we left a few belongings there because we were moving out of state and decided to slowly take the rest of our stuff out. The house was totally vacant by mid April, our discharge came April 24th. The sheriff's sale was scheduled first for end of June than for July 5th and finally rescheduled for July 19th , at which point the mortgage company took possession of the property back. They filed for a dismissal of the redemption period so they can re-market the house and re-sell it. This is still on going and it's late August. From what I understand now, we could have lived in the house until they actually got the redemption period revoked and evicted us from the property. Wow, that would have been probably 10 months.
I really wish this would just end. For those of you not knowing when you'll have to leave your property, this may help. I hope.

    Edytahome,
Your were talking about how long foreclosure last. Yes, you could have stayed in your home (payment free) until they evicted you.... with notice of sale....
I'm not in "foreclosure", but a Chapter 7. When the trustee took my home only (not land) because of the "clerical error" my lawyer told me - no more house payments!!!!
Since the home "issue" has never been settled yet (still in negoiations), I am still living in my home....
I have lived here for the last 14 MONTHS payment free!!! Except for utilities....
Until the "home issue" is settled the bank CANNOT foreclose on the land - (negoiating) and the trustee has not settled on buying the home back from the court (negoiating). The trustee has been so busy and swamped with petitions that my "issue" has been on hold temporily.

Has really "helped me" financially to restart over again!!!!

Its been a "real long drawn-out process" and WAITING has about "killed me" but hopefully it will all be settled in the near future.......

But believe me when I say 14 months of "free house payments" (money put back) has really helped my future nest egg..........

So UNTIL my issues are settled - ITS SAVE, SAVE, SAVE!!!

    Just some input,

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.
