Just to give you all an idea how long foreclosure really takes (in the state of Michigan), read on.
November of 2004 I missed my 1st mortgage payment on the house. January 14th we filed bankruptcy and indicated that we would be surrendering the property. We moved out of the house end of March, a month before our discharge, we left a few belongings there because we were moving out of state and decided to slowly take the rest of our stuff out. The house was totally vacant by mid April, our discharge came April 24th. The sheriff's sale was scheduled first for end of June than for July 5th and finally rescheduled for July 19th , at which point the mortgage company took possession of the property back. They filed for a dismissal of the redemption period so they can re-market the house and re-sell it. This is still on going and it's late August. From what I understand now, we could have lived in the house until they actually got the redemption period revoked and evicted us from the property. Wow, that would have been probably 10 months.
I really wish this would just end. For those of you not knowing when you'll have to leave your property, this may help. I hope.
