Using credit card for necessities prior to filing

I hear everything from 60 days to 6 months that I shouldn't use credit cards before filing. Was planning to file in Sept. Please help with the following from the BK court's perspective:

True or False: My water heater is leaking; I have no cash; I don't have much of a choice on charging the water heater to a credit card.

True or False: I have no vacuum cleaner. And still no cash. I see no way around charging a new vacuum cleaner on a credit card.

I am gritting my teeth over a potential future inquisition about these kinds of purchases.

    Thank you for any insights.

A hot water heater is not a luxury purchase-I see no problem there.
Nobody is really going to care about a few hundred dollars for a vaccum.

We have purchased several vacuum cleaners at Goodwill. We have also picked many up along the road on garbage day. I am handy with repairing things so that may make a difference.

I once made a hot water heater out of a 40 gallon galvanized tank. A fitting in the 1/4 section for a 5500 watt element, cold into bottom, 3/4 fitting with temp/pressure relief valve, and hot out of top. A 220 volt double throw switch with a light bulb to time it. It worked fine and we still use it in our little cottage. Don't forget to time it and turn if off.

But I agree with those above. Keep the amounts low however and don't look like you could be abusing the system. 'Hub

'Hub - you're freakin' me out with your skilz. This may sound a little princessy but I am *not* picking up a vacuum cleaner along the road on garbage day nor am I manufacturing my own water heater. One of us is handy and it ain't me. Thanks everyone for your input so far!
