Do you have to write the codes for Exemption?

There is one schedule where you write in all your exemptions...Do you have ot list all of them and write their codes and can I leave this blank and let the trustee decide what is exempt or not. Just listing clothing, furniture, bank accounts with very little money and the biggy...a 401K with $24,000.

I dont know how to list the codes.

    Thanks

Best to look for examples. The Nolo book has information in an appendix but don't take it as gospel, check an official source too just in case they made a typo, and make sure you note if it's up to date or not as the numbers can change. Are you taking Federal or state exemptions? On my Schedule C I'd write, say, 11 USC 522(d)(5) for the Federal wildcard and 11 USC 522(d)(2) for our car. I'd list things like books, TV, clothing, violin, earrings, etc. and amounts. You don't have to list each toaster oven and pair of boots separately, but at least try to break things out into broad categories. For instance, having enumerated my cash and bank accounts on Schedule B, on C I just wrote "cash in hand and in bank accounts" as one of the items. You need to put a value on everything. Advice varies on how to value things, I tended to go with what I'd expect to pay for a used item in similar condition at Goodwill or on eBay or whatever.

Certainly don't leave it blank. You can probably find an up-to-date copy of the actual laws online, they're often fairly easy to read.
