IRS to send colection agencies after debtors

They will do it for smaller amounts (under $25,000) owed on back taxes. BUT the article cautions:don't fall for scam collections trying to get you to send money claiming to be from IRS. You would be notified by letter giving name of firm to do the collection contact AND any check you write will be to IRS (US Treasury) not to a private company. Wanna bet some collectors will try to get $$$ from debtors by faking a connection to the government?

You know that is frightening! I don't owe back taxes, but this is just what the Collection Industry was waiting for! A way to make it look like they ARE the IRS.

    I shudder to think............

      Right to the "source":

Here is the official IRS position outlining the program, and where to check if you are approached by an agency supposed to be collecting for the government. A bit more reassuring --- maybe....
