    Collections / Lawsuit question.

Can anyone tell me if I can be garnished or have a lien put on my bank account for a debt that my wife is being sued for. She has a credit card account from wash mutual that she has steadfastly ignored and the junk debt collector is about to get a judgement against her. We are separated but are still married as she needs my medical insurance.
The account is in her name, not a joint account.

    Thank you

    Hi Knightsbranch

Your wages can not be garnished, but any joint bank accounts can be garnished. Depending on the size of the debt a lien can be placed on personal property such as vehicles, RVs, boats and houses.

I would advise your divorce lawyer about her up coming judgment to ensure that any property awarded to you during the divorce is lien free.

    Good Luck
