Or, check with your courthouse and see if the case was already dismissed for lack of action. My local court rules of civil procedure require further action within 90 days of service of summons upon the defendant. Your local court may have already automatically dismissed the case.

I am bumping this up for an update.

From what I understand, there is one year allowed for a case to be prosecuted, after that it is closed.

Today I receive a large envelope with a notice of summary judgement and copies of billing statements dated 24 October from the original attorney--the hearing is 14 November. Funny thing is, this account has been turned over to a third party collections agency as of 9 October. I need advice as to what to do next--what to file with the court to show that they no longer have this account and that is is now owned by another collections agency.
