    something funny going on here

In the last four weeks I have received about 6 or 7 applications for visa cards/loans. I never got this much all of last year. I am 4 months behind on my credit cards and these applications are from the banks that I owe. They want me to fill in the application or call them. Hope they are not holding their breath.

I opted out from credit bureau promotional inquiries and offers.
In the meantime I would stuff the letters in the reply mail envelopes and send them back.
Help a poor postal worker get a pension.
(I saw one of my mailmen working at home depot to pick up extra money).

Better yet, as some past 1970's counter-culture folks suggested, if you have a return receipt guarantee, then paste the damn thing on a brick and send it to them.

      Just kidding.............sort of......

They do. Miss a payment, and you may suddenly see multiple offers of credit show up. They know you're desperate for money, and are more than willing to give you a loan with a huge interest rate. And this offer of credit can be disguised...think about offers to allow a skipped payment. Sooooo easy to take them up on that one.
Standard disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer. I am an idiot. Do not take my advice. I am not responsible for what happens if you blindly follow an idiot's advice. Blah blah and more legal stuff.

I did some research on mailing bricks back using business reply mail.
Sadly the postal regs do not require such mail to be delivered or paid for.
So best to just stuff with heavy paper, and maybe a couple of big washers.
