Can a creditor who has received a judgment against you, seize your car in order to satisfy that judgment. If they can, are there any perimeters they must follow, i.e. is there an exemption amount they must abide by first etc...I have searched all over the internet and cannot find this information anywhere. Thanks. I am in New Jersey if that makes a difference.

Seizing car to satisfy a judgment

They cannot seize it themselves unless you did a title loan. If you are talking about a normal judgement then the sheriff could seize your car and sell it at auction after the court ordered it. . They pay the creditor and you get the rest. If your car is financed then they would not seize it unless there was a lot of equity in it. The creditor cannot just show up and take your car.
