    The real answer was the law firm was using the lawsuit filing papers to pressure a settlement on the debtor to avoid a judgment, by agreeing to monthly payments.
    so i wait to call their bluff if this is what this firm is doing? anyone have experience with this firm?

        Since your wife was actually served, if she doesn't respond within 30 days, they probably will move for a default judgment. Once they get the judgment they can try to collect by garnishing her wages or levying her bank accounts.
