Been looking over my credit report. I find bills under the original creditor and then one or more collection agencies. I recently received a collection agency bill and a bill from the original creditor within days of each other. I also have some old bills(including those from collection agencies) that do not appear on my credit report at all. How do you sort all this out? Who is the debt actually owed to at this point? Also, are medical bills treated any differently in bankruptcy than credit card bills?

Original creditors and collection companies are allowed, by law, to both report as long as only one is reporting a balance (and of course that's prior to any BK filing).
From a BK perspective you would list both companies - no need to sort anything out. Also don't worry about who is actually owed. It only matters if your wanting to negotiate with them. Did that help?

thanks - what do I do with the bills that do not appear on my credit report (all three credit reports)? Also, there are bills from the same creditor that appear more than one time -AMEX for example. The same balance with AMEX as the creditor appears a few times. I have equity in my home - it will be used to pay these creditors off so I'm concerned that the actual amounts are used.
