    The cost for file an answer to a complaint?

    Reading through the forums, I often see people mention fee to answer a complaint or summons. When I received my complaint there was no mention of a fee. In fact the courts did not even give me an address to send it to. I just looked up clerk of superior court , sent a letter to them and one to the attorney representing Citicards. Is that just NC or did I miss something? Thanks again.

    Call your court house and find out. In FL there isn't a fee to file an answer to a summons.

      I had a complaint from Citibank. I don't think there is a fee. I found a form online and did my own answer and mailed it back to the courthouse. I didn't hear back from them. Didn't get a judgment either.
      Filed August 20 341 on September 23 Report of No Distribution - September 24 Case Discharged and Closed on November 23!!!

        The fee to file an answer to a summons varies from $0 to $350, depending on the state, and the level of court you were sued in. Look up the court fee schedules for your state and county.

          I just answered , and thats it. No fee was asked, so I didn't offer. Sent answer certified mail. Hope it works out, but at this point , Iam really like oh well. Thanks!!

            It really depends on the state.

            Apparently some states don't charge, but many do. The fee is the filing fee charged by the court. For example, in Denver County Court, the filing fee to file an Answer is $82.

              In IL, for example, in the court district I'm in the fee to file an answer/appearance for a credit card suit is $160.

                It's even worse in Arizona, if the amount owed on the debt is $10,000 or more, it must go to Superior Court, and it becomes quite expensive...

                $301 for the plaintiff to file a lawsuit against the debtor

                $223 for the debtor to answer the lawsuit

                $301 for a deposition

                $223 for a debtor to contest a wage garnishment

                Even small claims court costs quite a bit...
