Merrick bank charge off. What now

My girlfriend had 2200 charged off over a year ago from merrick bank. My girlfriend has no intention of filling bankruptcy but would like to pay this debt. So she answered the call trying to set something up and the lady was rude and wouldn't even talk to her unless she gave checking account info. She hung up and did not give info. How should she try and set a payment plan up and should she gives her checking info. Thanks

When I was in the process of paying off my debts Merrick was one who actually worked with me. After 120 days late they put me on a no interest set payment plan until the account was paid off.

Just call back and demand to speak to a supervisor.

    Good Luck!

Is it ok to give checking account info? They will only take agreed upon amount? Thanks

No, never give them checking account info. Ever.

No I would never give any creditor my checking account number. Some creditors have been known to take more than what was agreed.

Thats the only way that they will accept a payment arrangement. Now that I am back on my feet a little I would like to pay this off. All other creditors have accepted payment arrangements and I have successfully paid them off. I have given checking info to Citicard and a few others with no problems but this lady on the phone just made me weary. I just dont want to be sued would rather pay them off on my terms vs garnishment. Anyone else have any suggestions. Thanks

The collector gets paid on commission. The faster she gets the money, the sooner she gets her cut.

Tell them to send the offer in WRITING, and you will send them a certified check or money order. Don't fall for high pressure tactics. If the collector isn't willing to agree to putting the offer in writing and accept a cashier's check ask for a supervisor.

              Two things:

              1) ALWAYS GET IT IN WRITING. Collectors will lie. Get all offers in writing for your protection.
              2) NEVER GIVE THEM YOUR BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION. They then have the ability to drain your account whether you give them permission or not. They may have to give money back if you can prove to your bank the withdrawal was unauthorized - but why put yourself in a position to have to do that? Would you give your bank account info to some random stranger on the street? No? Then why do it over the phone?

While they may say it is not possible - stick to your guns. You are willing and able to pay, eventually you will get somebody on the phone who will happily accept your money no matter how you choose to send it.

I don't think you could file BK on $2200 debt.

Did you know the collection agencies buy those accounts for like .02-.05 cents on the dollar. I bet if you offered $300, they might take it.
There is another forum that deals with just credit debt issues. There are 1000's of people on the forum. I know you will find good info on there. If interested, google "credit info center". It should be the 1st on page. gl

If Merrick still owns the debt then they won't settle with you. If the account has been sold then it's worth a shot to try and settle. Make sure you get all settlements in writing and ask for a tradeline removal for your gf credit report.

Also one final work on the idea of giving a creditor access to your bank account. They will promise to only take the payment, but they will lie. There is a very simple test to determine if a creditor or collector is lying to you. If there lips are moving, they are lying. These scum sucking bottom feeders violate federal law on a daily basis and will scream and thump their chests to get you to pay up. If that doesn't work, they'll promise the moon. Never believe a debt collector. EVER. When these morons call, let them listen to the dial tone. Don't worry, their computer will connect them to another victim before they can catch their breath from screaming at you.
