    medical collections for my children

The absurdity of this whole situation is that it is for something that the insurance billed incorrectly ONE TIME and has not managed to bill it identically to the way it was paid in full the other 3 times.

Regardless, they OC has sent both of my 3 year olds' medical bills to collection. Two different collection agencies for each child from the same provider and the exact same date of service and charge.

Of course I have always intended to include this in the bk. How does that work to include the debt of my children in bk? Do I need to do something with it now to make that all work out?
    Stopped paying 8/2010, Filed 2/2011, 341 3/2011 done, Report of no distribution . . . Discharged & Closed 5/2011!

It's not really your childrens' debt. Parents are financially responsible for their childrens' medical bills, so when you include this debt in your bankruptcy filing, it'll be taken care of.

For billing screw ups like this, you need to call the insurance company, tell them the doctors office has mis-billed you and you're in collections because of it, and have the insurance do a conference call with the medical billing office. Doctors tend to pay the back office staff poorly, with predictable results.

Sadly burying one's head in the sand, no matter how right you are, doesn't work out the way we expect. Believe me, I've done it too.

You shouldn't have to file BK because of this alone. (I know you're probably here for other reasons as well).

Believe me I tried for the first year of the whole mess to get them to put it through with the right code so they could get paid. I talked with insurance and provider and both of them together. I wrote letters and even called monthly telling them how to bill it/code it to get the rest of their money. The provider never once put it back through with the correct code. It's two years later now.

Thank you for the replies. I was really mad when I got collection letters for my twins yesterday. The incompetence is infuriating. This is a very small part of the whole sum I am bking, but I'll be glad to have it go away with the rest nonetheless.

I know how you feel. After my mother in law passed away, we were getting collection letters for some random doctor for the balance due after medicare. Just kept throwing them out. Finally after about 3 years they gave up.

p.s. there is just way too much open space on these forums now.
it has really reduced my participation...it is too much work now.
please mods cut down on some of the nonsense in the left margin
