why dont you just call the sheriff's office and find out what you need to do regarding the warrant? Obviously members on here cant help you as only you know the details of why this occurred. Its also very obvious that you have your answer by your own posting i.e., "....they told me no - it would still be on the calendar even if no oral argument was requested".

What's been posted about if you get stopped (like traffic stop or even a simple drivers lic. check) they will and can take you to jail given you have the warrant out. Do you really want to take that chance vs. just making a simple call and trying to figure out the next step? Think of your children - what if they're in the car with you and you get taken to jail for merely avoiding a call to straighten it all out?

That one of the worst things I would want my children to see.

Maybe you need to look into NJ's Safe Surrender Program - its coming up soon. Many states offer this service.

tobee43 - the letter says it is a civil warrant notice - is that criminal?

This is confusing to me - I have a disease that's left me with progressive cognitive impairment.

it is not criminal - its civil, huge difference.

Please call and find out what you need to do. Normally there is a set timeframe following serving of a warrant before the Shit hits the fan. Do yourself a favor - dont stir the pot ;)

You'll be fine - all you'll have to do is probably issue an answer - I mean, yes they will arrest you, but you should be released if you give information pertaining to the Docket # / case. the longer you wait - the worse you're making it.

is this a summons or a warrant...as i'm sitting right next to someone that use to arrest in nj......and if this is a civil summons it's not a warrant for your arrest??

if, in fact it is a civil warrant for your arrest, you need to contact someone and answer it immediately.

            if it's just a summons...then it's not a warrant for your arrest.

pandora....unfortunately we are talking nj here....clear you mind because nj is nuts...really...if it's going to happen that will be where it does. nj is another planet...trust me on this...they are terrible. it's the ONLY place in this country you can get into trouble sitting quietly at your dining room table eating dinner.

OP....make the call immediately and i'm giving you advise from the "horses" mouth and find out what this is about before the end of the day.

i'm not trying to scare you, just take care of it asap...

              .
Someone to breaka da legs eh? LOL

I understand what you're saying, but to be a criminal charge one has to be brought up against criminal charges. For it to be criminal it would involve a criminal court and a criminal conviction and sentence being imposed. Civil cases are litigated in civil courts as law suits, result in financial compensation, and in most instances involve a breach of contract of some sort.

I cant see a judgement being criminal

                ok...i got the info....

it COULD have originally been a civil matter....something as simple as being called to court to testify and not show up. if the OP did not show up....it turns into a bench warrant..although it did not start out as a criminal matter.

no....he says many times he served people that didn't pay parking tickets...which is certainly not criminal...or witnesses that refused to show up after being served a subpoena. he's telling me to advise this poor OP...to immediately call to find out why it turned into a warrant of arrest.

LOL!!! not even in nj do they arrest you or put a warrant out on you if you didn't pay your bills...but a civil matter can turn criminal.

well OP said the service was a warrant...they don't issue warrants on judgments in nj either....and if any place was going to have a debtor's prision it would be NJ!!!

I WILL NEVER Go back there...EVER.....

Wow. I would just validate the "warrant" with the issuing office. If it says State of New Jersey -- Essex County -- Newark... then that clerk should know. I also never heard of an arrest warrant being served directly upon an individual. It's usually executed upon the individual.

Do you owe child support or anything? You wrote Superior Court, which means... bad things.
