    Is this legal?

I have several small personal loans that I am not able to pay at this time.I am separated from husband and recently laid off from my job. I have talked with all the creditors several times and they still call several times a day or come by my home and bam on the door.

They leave notes on my car in sealed envelopes in public parking lot at my apartment. One has even taped a letter on locked apartment building door and on the apartment mail box. Notes have been left on door my of apartment and if another one comes by, they will take the letter (with my name on it) and replace it with their letter. I caught one doing that today and they had even opened a sealed envelope that had my name on it and read the contents. I asked them it that was mine and they said yes, even told me who it was from. I had to ask that they give it back to me, told them that was stealing. She told me they wanted me to get their letter first and not the other company's letter and that I probably did not want the letter. I took it out of her hand. One company left a voice message that said I needed to pay back the money I stole from them. Also, I know for a fact that all these companies have discussed my loans among themselves. One company told me this.

Not sure how many different ways I can tell them I can not pay right now, but I think they are breaking the law by removing sealed envelopes from MY door with MY name on it and opening and reading it.

I think I would get all these creditors together on a conference call and have them work out a schedule to harass you on different days. :-)
filed chapter 13..confirmed...converted to chapter 7...DISCHARGED!

I think at that point I would just ignore, ignore, and ignore. I would also get a PO Box so no one takes your regular mail. They can leave notes all day long, but you do not have to answer, talk to, or even acknowledge that is you. Until you are served to go to court it is all talk on the creditors part. If you do not have a job then there is nothing to take.

On a side note that is why I have three dogs in my home. No one has ever shown up at my door and tried to leave anything. If they did I just might let one of mine outside!!!!!

Typical of the loan shark type companies. They can and will do this, and as long as they are not going into your mailbox, there is nothing that can be done.

This is not mail, therefore is not regulated.

          forgot to mention this..

one of them actually pried piece of decorative wood (little round knob) off of my door. pretty sure they thought it was a peep hole that have covered. I heard all this scratching on the door and when they left, the piece was missing. My neighbor from across the hall saw them thru her peep hole on her door.

I would call the police if you have this happen next time. Leaving a note is one thing, but if you are destorying my property then I might just have to call the police to have you escorted off of my property!

Next time one of them shows up... Answer the door. Then tell them what part of your butt to kiss. Follow that with ... "Release the hounds!" Do you know anyone with a large mastiff? You can have it on a chain but it really needs to growl furiously for a minute. A good "Sick 'em" will help induce running.

Wow. Creditors coming to the house? Never heard of such a thing. Except maybe the mob or the movies... wow. If a creditor had come up on my door, pretty sure Maxx would have them buried in various locations through out the woods. My Texas dawg practices Chicago style shakedowns lol. You don't find the bodies that way. Maybe I should think about renting him out?

                        these are not payday loans...

they are small, local loan companies...which I suppose is just as bad, lol. I acknowledge that I owe the money, but at this point have no means to pay. They know this and I am willing to work with them and do the best I can. My biggest concern is they are taking letters that are stuck over halfway in my door or pushed under the door with just a small portion of the envelope showing on the outside. It has my name on it and sealed and they open it and take it and replace with their own. LOL..I did put a sealed envelope there myself with a note inside that said if you are reading this, you are a thief and are being watched as you remove it from my property. I think I will put one on door and say you stole my property and my lawyer will be contacting you.

Where the H are you located??? I've never heard of such chutzpah.

Why don't you leave an open note taped to your door demanding that anyone who wishes to correspond with you must MAIL their documents to you -- obviously they have your address or they wouldn't be there. And that you will instantly chuck any correspondence that is shoved in your door.
As it sounds like you're in an apartment complex, your mailbox should be accessible only to you, with your key. Just a thought. Make them at least pay 44 cents to aggravate you.

A nice "No Trespassing" sign helps too. Here in Georgia there are small loan companies that do that kind of malarky. It is usually the small ones because they are local. My neighbor had a small loan company, a title pawn company, a furniture rental/lease company and a buy here/pay here car lot coming to visit him many times a day for a few weeks.

One guy wouldn't quit knocking so he went out the back door, walked around then explained that if he didn't leave there was a real good chance that he'd meet the deity of his preference... that day. I don't think that guy ever came back. I'm not sure whether it was the really serious look or the large caliber pistol that he had with him.

He went to the Sheriff's Office and paid $30 to have a "Trespass Warning" served upon one guy. If he came back on the property he'd be arrested.
