Old Collection -to find out or not??

Back in Dec 1997/Jan 1998 my husband was in the hospital for a broke back-we had no insurance. One our his Bills went to collection and he agreed upon a payment amount of $25 a month. We have paid on this bill each month since, up until Oct 2009 when hubby was laid off. (yah right!-its been forever!)

they havent billed him since June/2009 we stopped paying in Oct/2009.
We are due to file BK 13 in the next few months. I have not heard from the company at all. (any other time they would have threatened a lawsuit)

I want to make sure this debt is included in our BK-so...my ? is:

should i contact the company for an accurate balance of this account? Or will this stir up things i dont need stirred up at this point?

Only reason im asking is im afraid it may have been transferred to a different collection company and i dont have the information, or account number if that is the case. I DO NOT want this to be overlooked. Also i just tried to get into the account online and it says the account can no longer be serviced via the website...so Im not sure what to think!

Also........VERY IMPORTANT..............this has NEVER and Still has not shown up on my hubbys Credit report.........beginning balance was over $9000.00 as of the last statement it was just under $6000.00

any and all advice is appreciated.........Thanks!

I would try to find out who has that debt and get it included. It might come back to haunt you post BK.

Use your last statement as your guide. It doesn't matter if or who they might have sold it to. List the original creditor and the last balance you had.

And... it is probably past all statute of limitations anyway.
