Question about new job and wage garnishment

I have a couple of questions about wage garnishments that I couldn't find the answers to by searching the forum.

I have one judgment against me from credit card debt, and as a result, they tried to garnish my wages. However, I was unemployed when they sent me the paperwork, and I have been since. I am planning to file BK soon, but may need to wait a while to save enough for an attorney.

I am wondering:
1. Am I required by law to notify them as soon as I start working again (I expect to soon)?
2. If yes, typically how long will it take for them to begin garnishing wages once they are notified? First paycheck?
2. If I am not required to notify them, how long would it take them to find out I am working again and begin garnishing my wages? Also, how would they find out I am working?

Every state's garnishment laws are different.

In Mississippi, which is fairly typical on the subject of garnishments, the employee has no duty to notify the judgment creditor of his employment status or whereabouts. In fact, it's fairly standard procedure around here for the employee to change employment immediately upon being notified that his wages are being garnished for the express purpose of defeating the garnishment. Then the judgment creditor goes on a hunt to find him again, garnishes his wages again, he changes employment again and the whole process repeats itself.
