Got our first call from a local (AL) "law office of Zarzaur & Schwartz". Anyone with experience? Since they are in Birmingham, about 2 hours away, should we be more concerned with them than any other colloctor or atty who is located elsewhere around the country? No letter yet, so I will wait 5+ days to call them back.

Generally, not always, that's a sign they do intend to sue.
When you get sued it has to be by an attorney licensed in your state. Most CA farm that out to local firms that have knowledge of the local courts. Not always. But it's typical. So the poor debtor, seeing naught around him
Yet feels the narrow limits that impound him
Grieves at his debt and studies to evade it
And finds at last he might as well have paid it.

Why would you be more concerned simply because they are in the same state as you are? They may be able to move against you more quickly, yes, by a day or two. But, if you are filing bk, geographic proximity doesn't mean much.Pay no attention to anything I post. I graduated last in my class from a fly-by-night law school that no longer exists; I never studied or went to class; and I only post on internet forums when I'm too drunk to crawl away from the computer.

And, if the collector was not licensed in your state, the likelihood that they would pass your debt to another collector after you DV'd them was high.
