    Collection time frame

If this has already been asked (which I am sure it has been) I apologize. From what I have been reading and now my own experience, it stays with the original creditor for about 6 months or so, then this is where I need clarification, it goes to a CA, how long does it usually stay there until (if I am right again), it goes to a lawyer (?) for suit? How long will the CA try and collect and how long does the lawyer try to collect and then the final step I guess is a lawsuit? Sorry for so many questions, just trying to figure it all out...We are at about the 5-6 month mark with some and only 1-3 with others! Thanks!!!!

All the information here has been invaluable!

depends on the original creditor. there is no rule of thumb. GE moved quickly to go to a CA, then Law firm, but no sue yet. Citi called for 3 months, then sent to Ca's, then charged off at 6 months. Chase never called, charged off at 6 months, now with Ca's. you can not depend on anything, but overall you might be ok for a year or so after last payment. I last paid in march. some of mine are now with law firms threatening to sue.

I missed my first payment with Home Depot (Citibank) on November 5th and got a letter from a CA dated November 14th. Very quick for them.

I'm keeping a spreadsheet that tells the tale. OC-CA-Law firm. For me it seems that some of the CA's send it right to a law firm after I send them a DV. Whats wierd is I got no calls from Chase for 6 months, probably because i changed my contact info on their website just prior to me cutting them off. then about a week ago i start getting an automaed robo call from them, and all accounts are charged off. I think they may have cross-referenced my info with their Auto loan dept. since i have a car loan with them.
