RBS trying to pull a quick one....

It's Saturday, and as that means free minutes on the cell phone, the phone does get answered once in a while around here...

My wife answered it this morning with RBS claiming to be on the other end. First they asked for me...I was not in ... ('hiding under the table'...ha) than they address my wife by her first name and claimed that SHE ows them !!! However... she is NOT on any of my credit cards ( nor am I on any of hers..)

She told them that she does not have an account with RBS, to which the lady countered:'' ...we sent you a bill every month...". As she has never enrolled into anything to do with RBS, and there is NOTHING on her credit reports...my wife merely responded by telling her: " Send me a debt validation" and hung up.

Seems that this is some sort of new ploy ? Anybody else had any similar experience with RBS ?

RBS is not the only one. Many of these are scammers and dig up old debt, closed debt and even other peoples debt. Google Zombie Collections or Zombie debt. 'Hub
If I knew it all, would I be here?? Hang in there = Retained attorney 8-06, Filed 12-28-07, Discharge 8-13-08, Finally CLOSED 11-3-09, 3-31-10 AP Dismissed, Informed by incompetent lawyer of CLOSED status, October 14, 2010.

Hmmm... I can understand about old debt, ect., however I remain puzzled as up to this point in my life I have NEVER had any outstanding debt...period, Granted I am the one that now owes money on an RBS card ( that's just between you and me and the fence post, and was in no way admitted to the creditor on the phone ...), but my wife has NEVER had an RBS card.

But you see, she was the one on the phone. They do not care about who it is, as they lie. It is a zombie ploy even if the debt is real. Much zombie debt is real debt, but out of the SOL. You can easily restart the SOL without realizing it if you are not careful. 'Hub

HUB: sorry for harping on this, but, b-u-t... there is NO debt that ever has reached any SOL timeframe. All of my debts are RECENTLY defaulted...and wife is up to date on hers.

Yes, I understand. It was an example for the other readers. It could be your real debt, a false debt, someone else s debt, and it is possible that your wife by stating on a taped phone that in some way she acknowledge the debt, it could become legally hers. These collectors play games just above and sometimes below legal ethics. I'll look up one of the simpler explanations as this is quickly becoming a serious scam in our poor economy. 'Hub

OHBOY, here is a good link about what I was talking about. Refer to the fact that these goons attempt to make even the person who does not own the debt, affirm by tricks that in some way they do. They knew you would get the message after attempting to scare hell out of your wife. This is becoming a big business in this economy. I got a bill for something that was out of state in which I had never visited.
