ahh ha thats how they do it. I got some call last week to my cell from a 215-687-4367 so i dialed it back and the person that answers the phone says hello blank blank, my wifes name. so i hang up. then i do a *67 and their number from my cell, which blocks my number, and then a recording answers that says "Goodbye" then click, it hangs up.

So these people got some kind of call discriminator that only accepts calls from phone #'s they load in to their database.

I never did figure out who they were, since they did not identify themself.

By the way, these guys lie like crazy. One day they called me and the woman on the phone told me that Michigan was a community property state and that they would go after my assets if I didn't pay. They also threatened my house (illegal) and other rediculous crap. I told her that she was full of crap and then I sent a complaint to our AG. They were calling me from Canada.

Funny, I was just going to post a question about that same circumstance, getting calls from the OC & CA at the same time.

Got a call from National Action Financial Service on my hubby's cell phone. Just one call, left a message...important matter, call Mr. Braun, blah, blah, blah. Goggled the number to figure out who it was.

I'm sure they are collecting for Discover because that is the only creditor with his cell number. But Discover is still hammering both the home line and his cell from 2 different numbers daily. I don't think their office knows what the heck is still there and what is in collections.

Those folks at Discover are psychotic anyway. Back when I was still talking to creditors, they were one of the first I gave up on.

What I always found interesting was the OC's who would call along with a CA attempting to collect on the same account. But, when I would call the OC, they would tell me that I needed to call the CA.

Speaking of spoofing call numbers. Yu can do this with google voice. I can use my cell phone to call my google voice number and then have googlr voice complete the call. I can then have GV record the call.

I think in the future, I will always go through google voice with my cell number.

I am not sure if I have received info from them regarding the alleged debt... because I still don't know who on Earth they are... and I haven't called them back though I was curious to do so....

I think it's Cap One because when I googled the phone number I saw some stuff that indicated they were with Cap One....

I did DV my Cap One debt that was being handled by Borack and Associates out of Maitland Fla. (my neck of the woods) ... but then Borack dumped one of my CapOne accounts and sold it to Alliance One out of Trevose, PA.... the other CapOne account, I assume is still being held by Borack & Associates.

Cripes, I have a hard time keeping up with all my debts and DVs.... in answer to your question, I don't know! But I'm scrambling to save up my retainer fee and am planning a BK 7 next summer. I hope it all works out OK!

finally got my letters, 3 of them

what a wind fall day. 1 letter from united collections and 3 from Global.

Now this is darn interesting. The letters from Global state they are collecting on behalf of Hilco Receivables LLC a Debt purchasing company. Our client wants to settle this in a reasonable and professional manner. we are offering to settle for 80% of the original balance. original creditor was Wama/chase.

now this has me confused. did chase sell this debt, and is Hilco a JDB ?? From what i could see from my local court docket Chase is very active here and has in house attorneys in LA that that fire out law suits left and right.

Albacore, you might give it a while and check to see if the original creditor is reporting a $0 balance, or give the OC a call and simply ask them. This is what finally convinced me that CACH was the owner of the alleged BoA account. The alleged BoA account started showing $0 balance.

Who know how this stuff works. Maybe Hilco is a 4th party collector. LOL

Normally you'll get a letter when the account is sold, if they can find you, and it'll usually find it's way onto your credit report (OC status: Transferred/Sold, and the detail will say to who). I haven't had the JDB creditors reporting any tradelines, yet.

We have a Chase/Wamu card which doesn't seem to have been sold, Mann Bracken tried using NAF for one of their bogus judgments, right about when NAF exited the credit card dispute business.

In any case, yes I agree it's LOL funny starting at 80 cents, but I guess they have to start somewhere and 80 is more realistic than 100, plus that's 80% of some bogus amount with fees and interest, so it's more like 100% of what you started out owing them.

And at least i know there not with a law firm yet. This is getting to be like a shell game trying to keep track of all these

Alb, I just noticed you are coming up on a year since you first posted. A good sign for those out thre who need time and are diligent.

Many accounts go to "law firms," but in my expereince even these law firms will disappear with a DV and C&D. You will definitely know when the real law firm sues you. And, even then, you may have much more time. Its been a slow proess for me with only one National CC suing me after a couple of years.

It is definitely a shell game! After whittling my 20+ accounts down to 9-11, it is now easier to deal with. Only one of the 9-11 has filed suit, and I'm not sure exactly what I'll do in this case. My options change almost daily. You've done well hanging in there, so don't let any threats without a summons freak you out. You'll know when the time to file has come. Might as well enjoy the ride.
