I just read an article in the Columbus Dispatch that says consumers in Ohio who think a collector has violated the law can file a complaint with the Ohio attorney general's office at SpeakOutOhio.gov, or by calling (800)282-0515.

Most if not all Attorney Generals put collection violations on a low priority. Debt collectors know this.Golden Jubilee was a year-long celebration held every 50 years in which all bondmen were freed, mortgaged lands were restored to the original owners, and land was left fallow: Lev. 25:8-17

Not only a low priority, a VERY LOW priority. Unless there are some really bad things going on, they are pretty much ignored. All information contained in this post is for informational and amusement purposes only.
Bankruptcy is a process, not an event.......

I found that if it's an election year, and they are receiving thousands of complaints for a specific collection agency or other scammer... press conference!
(But still nothing really done overall. The closer it is to election, the more results you get.)Chapter 7 (No Asset/Non-Consumer) Filed (Pro Se) 7/08 (converted from Chapter 13 - 2/10)

Have my fingers crossed. I was with a Debt Settlement Company for 8 mths from July 2008 until earlier this year. I filed a complaint w/the Attorney General for PA and last week got a case # and agent assigned to look into my claims. Hopefully, they can get some of my money back for me... Not sure if I should be optomistic or not ??Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones
Chapter 13 filed 10-21-09
Discharged 4-13-15

The Attorney General's office and Better Business Bureau are both worthless in my opinion.
For example, who pays the bills for the Better Business Bureau? Businesses!
.......Possibly the business you might have an issue with!
What is needed is people to become pro-active. Talking about company after company that violates the law of the land doesn't get us anywhere.
What we need is 'meat'. We got to look at how we can 'fight back' by taking these characters to court Pro Se.
for example, I have looked at what is needed to take somebody to court for violating the American Disability Act (ADA), but only can go so far. So for the most part, I am clueless. This also applies to handling credit issues.Golden Jubilee was a year-long celebration held every 50 years in which all bondmen were freed, mortgaged lands were restored to the original owners, and land was left fallow: Lev. 25:8-17

You yourself rarely get money back from the AG's office.
I was watching Dateline NBC last night and they had a recap on the bad collectors out of New York and how they took tens of thousand of dollars from people by threatening to put them in jail and posing as police officers. The NY AG's office finally closed them down and fined them. Did the money go back to the people who paid? No, it goes into some fund and all the money they seized from the illegal collections does it go back to the people that paid it? No....it goes to the State of NY...
