My mom's creditors are calling...

Let me start by saying dh and I are going through a BK of our own right now.

My mom is going through a divorce and she is deep in debt and has stopped paying her credit cards. She can't file Ch 7 b/c she just filed one 5 years ago. I have this one company that keeps calling me asking for her b/c she won't answer her phone when they call. The thing is they talk very rude to me. IMO it's my phone I pay the bill and I shouldn't have to put up with them calling. How do I make it stop though?

Today I got mad and told the guy with a few very nasty words that this is my phone and she doesn't live her so he could go shove his attitude you know where. I hate creditors

You have a to send them a cease and desist letter. Send it certified return receipt and that will typically shut them up. Just do a quick search online for that type of letter. They are basically the same and all effective.

Aces67 on another post you tell us how stressed you are. Here is the solution to your problem, someone to talk to!!! And after you drop the hint that your mother has a secret phone number that you could be convinced in sharing with them, they will want to talk to you. I see hours of entertainment value here.

Need to check on the youngsters, just tell them you will be right back and take care of things, fifteen minutes later rejoin the conversation. Talk about anything and everything, THE GAME is how long can you keep this person on the phone.

My personal best is 38 minutes.

(I had a BIL in jail, so when he would call, I would save the pay phone number and then give it to the collectors as my dear Sister's.) When they called back and we played again I would profusely apologize, saying how I always get those numbers mixed up and then start talking about BIL and all twenty offenses and how he really did not mean to break both the repo man's legs, etc.

PS: If your mother has a real common last name, look in the court records and find someone in jail with a similiar name. THen point the collector in the right direction dropping the hint that sometimes she goes by this name.

I'm with Rick on this one! I LOVE wasting the time of collectors. I figure the longer I talk with them and they get nothing from me I've saved a few people from their calls.

Nothing makes me smile more than giving an off the wall answer to their questions. Whenever they say "We can do ..." I tell them "GREAT!, You take care of it then."

When they are "concerned about my credit rating" I advise them I am going for a record low score.

Whenever they give me a number I can call I repeat it back to them and transpose a couple digits. Takes about 5 minutes to get the number right!
