    Oooh, another new one!

Got another new caller today....this one is from Global Credit and Collections from my old Providian/WAMU/Chase account. I talked to the guy, and he said Chase sold the account off to Hilco Receivables, where it is in "Pre-legal status" until June 28.

I told him we're interviewing two attorneys next week, and he said hopefully we'll file soon, because after the 28th, they'll probably take legal action.

We probably won't be able to file for at least a month, but I'm guessing nothing will happen on their end quite that fast? I'm just wondering if I should be doing anything to hold them off.

This was the first time I've heard from them. I did call the guy back and just told him we are interviewing attorneys next week, and I'll be happy to give them a name and phone number as soon as we have retained someone. I did tell him I expected something in writing from them, and he said it went out today. Is that the "dunning letter"? So once I get that, I send them back a DV and C&D, right?

If you haven't received notice from Chase that tis account was sold, how do you know that it isn't somebody trying to illegally collect on his debt?

Ask for proof they own this debt.

They are using the typical scare tactics to get you to pay. I dont think a lawsuit is just waiting right around the corner for you. If they waste money trying to sue you, it will just hasten your filing of the petition. They know that too. Leeches.

I also doubt a lawsuit is close at hand. I'll post my thoughts related to suits in a new thread.
