Out of work/waiting to file/how to avoid liens against checking account?

    Do not leave any bank accounts open, even if no money or minimal money in them. Your banks legal dept will receive the "property other than wages garnishment" i.e. bank levy, and they will freeze the account - no matter how much or little money is in there. Then they will charge your account a fee- mine was $150 per levy (I had 3 hit at one time ).

    Simply close them out. Stick with cash, or the other methods described by others here.
    4/27/09- 6 judgements, 2 liens, 3 bank levys later ... 2nd lawyer visit. 5/4/09- Paperwork done. 5/14/09 signed, filed Ch7. 6/23/09 - 341 meeting DONE!
    8/25/09 - Discharged! 8/27/09- Closed!!!
