    What's a DV and a CD?

I keep seeing these abbreviations to send to the CA's (Collection Agency, right?), but I'm not sure what they are. Can anyone help?

For the most part, Disputing the Validity is a waste of time and effort. They just send a one page letter stating the account is valid, or more rarely they send a copy of one of the old credit card bills. And then they start calling you on the phone again.

Sending a Cease and Desist Communications letter will usually get them to stop calling you on the phone. Although it does not legally apply to original creditors, I have found it to often work on original creditors as well.

It does not have to be complicated at all. Simply write to the collection agency or creditor and say this...

"In accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, I demand that you cease and desist from any communication with me."

Pop that letter in the mail, and usually within a week or two (it takes awhile for them to received it and process it and get it into their computer calling system) they will stop calling.

I start off my sending it by regular first class mail because it is cheaper, and it usually works anyways. But if that doesn't work in a few weeks, I send another one by certified mail. If that doesn't work, then I file a complaint against them with my state Attorney General's office. So far out of more than 26 different collection agencies, only one has ignored my cease and desist letter and caused me to contact the state to get them to stop calling me. So, it works most of the time.
      The world's simplest C & D Letter:
"I demand that you cease and desist from any communication with me."
Notice that I never actually mention or acknowledge the debt in my letter.
