Keep getting phone calls from "private" on caller ID.

    Keep getting phone calls from "private" on caller ID.

    First it was my wifes phone, then mine about two weeks later. I still have yet to had the chance to answer the phone, I really wish I did. Eventually I will catch the call, I always leave my cell laying around.


    Any ideas which CA this could be? Most of the others always have a 1800, or 1888 number, or some long distance #, but never just "Private"

      All it means is that it is a private number. It could just be a person having the wrong phone number but since you are in the midst of collection calls, it could be any one of them as BigJohn states.

        I have "Restricted" showing up on my caller ID at least 5 times a day. I've picked up a few times, but there was dead silence and then the call ended.

          I owe just about all the major banks. The only one calling and blocking their # is B of A/FIA card services. do you owe them ??

            yup I think we have three accounts through them that are delinquent. Oh, well, I am filing in about 3-4 more months, no worries. I cant wait to answer it eventually and see who the hell it is.

              If you want to answer and find out who it might be, what we did in the past was when they asked "May I speak to Jane Doe or John Smith" we replied - "I'm sorry (Jane/John) is at work right now and I am here watching the kids. Can I have them call you?? They will not speak to baby sitter but you will be able to tell if it is a collection call if they state they will just call back. They won't identify themselves unless the caller states "Yes, this is Jane Doe/John Smith."

                The only "private" call I had was from the repo company where the lady tried to threaten me with a warrant for my arrest if I didn't surrender the vehicle. Other than that, it just said "call" or was a long distance number or 800 #. Actually I lied, Chrysler started calling me from a local number. I think they route calls to different numbers in the same area code that the debtor lives......
