    Bank account info and creditors

I've been paying my credit card bills by either the web site or phone for many years, so obviously all of my creditors have access to my bank routing # and account #. Do I have to change my accounts or change banks now that I am not paying the cards anymore? What are the chances that they would take money out without authorization? One of the accounts is joint with my husband.

All of my creditors are big ones - Citicards, Chase, B of A, Capital One, AE...does this mean they will probably be above board? Will they transfer my account information to the third party collectors that will eventually end up with my accounts?

Can I just go in and delete the account info online and will that take care of the problem?

My BK attorney advised me to get a different bank acct at a different bank, once I stop paying my creditors. Even though you said something about deleting your banking info on the creditors' website, I would still think that banking info is stored somewhere. I wouldn't trust just deleting it.

I did that , but i also opened a new checking/savings account with a credit union . first paycheck direct deposit will go in tonight. I just finished emptying my old account with a major bank except $20, as i'm sure they would move to seize any funds as soon as they see I stopped my CC payment. just part of the pre- planning process.

I would not trust any of those other creditors. You could end up with a zero account and go online and see you have paid in full some A$$ whole. I would do what “Alvacore” did and move your wealth (term used lightly), out of that known place. ‘Hub
If I knew it all, would I be here?? Hang in there = Retained attorney 8-06, Filed 12-28-07, Discharge 8-13-08, Finally CLOSED 11-3-09, 3-31-10 AP Dismissed, Informed by incompetent lawyer of CLOSED status, October 14, 2010.

I know for a fact that if your checking account is with the same bank that you owe money on cc debt that they can and will take the money out of your account. Metro credit Union got a whopping $25 bucks, cleaned out that account without notice. I moved my money from BoA because I owed them money on the cc.

BOA is one of the worst offenders of swiping funds from your account without authorization.

But, once you have provided your account numbers and you go into "delete" the account information, it just delete's it from your view. The bank still has the routing and account information on your record.

Best to open a new account and do NOT use that account to pay those creditors. Once you do, they of course keep that info too.
