Amex just called my work

They've been calling my cell, and now they decided to start calling my work number; and leaving messages there on my voicemail (while they won't on the cell). If they start talking to people there I'm a little concerned that I might lose my job.

This is getting ridiculous. Do they actually think it will be beneficial to cause this trouble for me at work?

I would send them a certified letter asap, asking that all communication be done in writing. Tell them that phone calls are not convenient and to please not call your home, cell or work.

Tell them that they are not permitted to call your work, that it will get you fired. They wouldnt want that now would they? How could they collect $$$ from you if you have no job.

Under Consumer Protection Fair Collections of Debt there is a law for this...copy the statute and then tell them they CAN NOT call your work and if they do again you will take legal action. Once you notify them in writing not to call your work, house/cell etc THEY CAN NOT...I just got doing this... Good Luck!

OC's need not abide by the FDCPA laws, from my understanding. Meaning, they could call your work every day if they felt like it.

Only third party collection agencies need abide by this law.

But if you tell them it will get you fired, they wouldnt want to do that, how could they collect $$$ from you if you have no job.

we live in WI maybe they do he gave me the statues I had to give them to my hubby's work and did not have time to make a copy...Sorry, it must be our own statues that have that in them. I could have sworn he said Consumer Protection though?!? Sorry and thanks!

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Acronym being, FDCPA.

Original creditors know they dont need to abide by this law.

I dont think WI has its own consumer protection laws like California.

I wouldnt worry about it anyway.

If you tell the creditors you retained an attorney, they generally never call you again.

thanks...maybe... I think after what you said it was more or less to scare them, it was an old landlord that doesn't know the laws and was just being a jerk calling my husbands work looking for info and being a pain.
