    Wage Garnishments in CA

Can someone please help me understand these in California? I believe creditors after winning a judgement can take up to 25% of my take home pay. If i have 5 accounts and they all recieve judgements how much can they legally take if i bring home 600 a week?

My home is upside down so i dont think they can take that to sell and pay off anything...i am thinking this is the worse they can do??? please correct me if wrong.

California uses the federal restrictions of a 25% limit on wage garnishment - http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/...shments.html#5 . Note also that because California is a community property state, the wages of your spouse can be garnished as well.

Regardless of how many creditors might get garnishment rulings against you, the maximum that can be taken from your wages is 25% total. For your income of $2400/month, 25% of that - $600 a month - can be garnished.

If you have a spouse, do they work also? If yes, then he/she could lose 25% total of their wages too.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

California also allows for certain exemptions and hardship. If you do get a garnishment, fill out the form that asks about your dependants and any hardship issues, it may reduce your garnishment level. It has to be sent in within a certain timeframe.
