The best security is pay all ccs with money orders. Western Union ones are only 75 cents. That'll give you additional piece of mind.
So true...After meeting with my attorney and reading on here that you should go back into your cc accounts and delete the bank info, I tried that...but none of my cards would let me....I've always paid everything online, so I guess now they have the info and there's nothing I can do about it (besides close the account).

Have you already filed? If so, can you amend the filing and include the $200? I'm shocked the payment went through, ETF or not, with only $2 in the bank at the time.

I really want to keep this bank acct. open. I've been with them a long time & always have been in good standing. Although my car loan is with them too & I haven't made a payment for a few months so hopefully they don't close my checking acct.

Man, I can so understand that. I wanted so badly to keep mine open too, especially since it was my credit union through my employer.

It was too risky IMO, because I had a couple loans through them so I went out and opened another checking account at a bank that I had no affiliations with and changed my direct deposit to go through them.

My checking account that I abandoned still had a few dollars in it but that was quickly diminished and overdrawn by an auto pay that had been set up (I had told the creditor to cancel but they didn't). A few months later, the credit union closed the account themselves.

Much as it may hurt (it was hard for me), were I you I would close (or abandon with nothing in it) that account and start fresh somewhere else.
Best to do this now and not after your checking account is in the neg so that you don't have a hard time opening a new account.

          Best of luck to you,

For everyone closing your accounts & opening them up elsewhere, is this a good thing to do before filing? I know people say to not use the credit card a few months before filing & stop making payments on it but doesn't opening another bank account before filing look suspicious?

I've only seen it recommended when you owe money to the bank, i.e.- have a credit card or loan with them, that you're including in the bankruptcy. Even then, it may depends on the bank and their policies.
