I'm glad Texas doesn't do wage garnishments. I'll be getting a job soon but not exactly sure how it'll all pan out with everything.

GoingDown - What are you doing sifting through trash? Your avatar made me quite curious.

      Hi Krispy:

Going through your trash is one of the easiest (though potentially messy) ways P. I.s and identity thieves can learrn about you. Anything with your account numbers, banks statements, SS numbers, utility bills, etc.--anything!!--can be used against you. Never throw any paperwork away without shredding it first. And if you can burn it safely, then do so. Forensic specialists CAN reconstruct your shredded paperwork.

Funny since we knew our UPS man very well!

Why can't these guys find your house? Told him the truck was out front, clean and the keys inside and told him to come and get it, we have been expecting you!
        he laugh and said Thank-You!

Do you mean that P.I.'s go to your house & take a bag of trash?! If that is possible then I say "Go Ahead"!! LOL I shred all paperwork & my trash is just that, stinky trash. Plus everytime I empty the shredbin I put it in a garbage bag & then go to my cats litterbox & dump some poo on there haha.

              Man oh man,

If anyone wants to go through my dog droppings, dirty diapers, food, lawn and tree clippings (which smell FOUL) to try and reconstruct my shredded paper to collect on my debt then they are more desperate than I thought.

I guess that putting all my trash together rather than in separate bins for recycling is now the way to go.
Very fortunate in the grand scheme of things but have learned my lesson.

creditors discussing your debt with a third party

Is that true? Before I'd moved into my own place, Scumowitz or somebody called my LANDLADY once, I suppose because I was selfunderemployed, have no family, and live off the grid, so no phone. Fortunately, she's a dear friend who's practically adopted me, and although she knew nothing of what I was going through financially, she was so ferocious he never called her again. And she's clever enough to have managed all this without even acknowledging that she knew me.

                Huh...evidently it is true:

COMMUNICATION WITH THIRD PARTIES. Except as
provided in section 804, without the prior consent of the
consumer given directly to the debt collector, or the express
permission of a court of competent jurisdiction, or as
reasonably necessary to effectuate a postjudgment judicial
remedy, a debt collector may not communicate, in connection
with the collection of any debt, with any person other
than a consumer, his attorney, a consumer reporting agency
if otherwise permitted by law, the creditor, the attorney of
the creditor, or the attorney of the debt collector.

I look for copper, aluminum, etc. to recycle. It pays my phone bill each month, and it's easy.
                    The world's simplest C & D Letter:
"I demand that you cease and desist from any communication with me."
Notice that I never actually mention or acknowledge the debt in my letter.

I had a creditor call my work once. I told them now was not a good time to talk, I took their information and told them the best time to reach me was on my home phone after I am off work. I then called them back and instructed them that I can not receive phone calls from work or it could cost me my job. I believe you can ask creditors to stop calling your work and they are legally obligated to do so. If it costs you your job, it could come back on them. Any creditor must cease contacting you on the phone whether its home or work if you request not to in writing.
