    What happens after you die?

Ok, so not exactly what the subject line implies!

Husband and wife. Husband has a credit card in his name, wife is NOT on the account at all as a co-signer, joint account, authorized card holder, etc.

Husband dies. Is wife responsible to pay off the husbands credit card?

The wife is not directly responsible, but this is really a wills/probate issue and depends on many factors.

The husbands estate (if one exists), could be responsible to pay the debt.

The estate will be responsible for the debt. I'm not sure how it works if there is no money at all in the estate. Usually, there would be at least a car, a house, or personal affects that can be sold.

Not to mention a life insurance policy that would probably get wiped out by creditors.

I have nothing to add here, except that seeing the subject line "What happens after you die?" in a *Collection Problems* forum made me laugh... yeah, I hear creditors in the afterlife are inescapable! LOL!!!
Nolo Press book on filing Chapter 7, there are others too. (I have no affiliation with Nolo Press; just a happy customer.) Best wishes to you!

My step-son was killed in a work accident Dec. 06. His few CC's filed with the estate, but there is nothing there for them, he was only 25. So, they get zippo. His truck did get repo'd though.

Just wanted to say how brave it is to share this tragic experience to help others here - thank you.
