Only 7 Days Late - citicards

And citicards called me at work. They wanted to know what was wrong since I have a perfect payment history. I told them I wasn't allowed to accept personal calls at work and the guy started speaking really fast and gave me some number to call.

    And so it has begun.

Maybe they are seeing that more and more people are defaulting in this economy and they are trying to get ahead of the ball in late accounts.

maybe but doesn't really matter how on the ball they are - I still cannot pay. If nothing else, it will only force me to file sooner.

that's your pretty typical "did you forget to mail your payment?" call. Most of the big names will do that when you are late by a few days just to ask if there is something they can do. Not really a collection tactic, but a lot of people don't get their bill, or just forget to pay it. Mostly just them trying to fix a problem before it becomes a 30 days late on someone's credit report.

I think it's actually a good thing that they call...when I had my cards, and I missed a payment, Amex would call and just mention a simple reminder.

they called me 5 times today at work even after I asked them to call my home number instead. I just hung up on them. If I get really annoyed, I will just put them on perpetual hold.

Danaf, go ahead and send a cease and desist letter by certified mail instructing them specifically not to call you at work. If you want to talk to them at home, fine, but make sure your letter includes the various times they called today (you may even be able to use the memory feature on your work phone for this, if it has one) and that you have specifically requested they not call you at work but they have been doing it anyway.

Five times in one day says that they are not going to play nice -- there are collections calls and then there is harassment -- and it will just get worse from here. So even though it's the original creditor and not a collection agency, go ahead and send a cease and desist. I think you'll be glad you did.
Nolo Press book on filing Chapter 7, there are others too. (I have no affiliation with Nolo Press; just a happy customer.) Best wishes to you!
