Can't argue with that. You may be right about the subsidiary thing, too; older companies tend to be a little easier to work for than newer companies or startups, and AT&T UCS was only four or five years old (IIRC) when they got taken over by Citi.
Nolo Press book on filing Chapter 7, there are others too. (I have no affiliation with Nolo Press; just a happy customer.) Best wishes to you!

Oh my, I didn't mean to offend any current employees of the company, particularly our friends HERE.

The recruiter who called me, however, was proposing I work as an independent contrator (I'm currently employed), opening an office in the area...with the "potentital" to earn hundreds of thousands of dollars running a business for them. Of course working in essence for free in the beginning.

So I wouldn't be eligible for all the great benefits of a regular full time employee either. The guy had the same hard line sell as their collections group.

Once again, I hope you weren't offended, and I certainly fault NO ONE for providing for their family especially with kick a$$ benefits. Lucky you, ours suck.

Heck I don't work for them. Some of my friends do. I'm in medical research and as far as I know they haven't gone into that buisness yet.
My husband tried for a few years to get a job with them but never had any luck. Instead he now works for a very subprime lender who also treats their employees really well.
Just making an observation. I don't think I would have excepted contract work either.

Out of the 20 credit cards I had, Citifinancial was the most persistant in hounding me by phone prior to filing and they were one of my lower owing balances. Bank of America was the best and I actually feel bad that I defaulted on them. They maybe called once then they sent letters asking how they could help, not threatening me one time.

Don't be confused on this post-thread. CitiFinancial is a separate entity of CitiGroup (as far as I know.) I believe that Citi Finance even trades under its own stock ticker. If my memory serves me correct Citi operates several sub-companies; Citigroup, Citibank, and Citi Financial. Citibank is generally a very solid company and, agian as far as I know, it is Citibank that issues credit cards. Citi Financial issues a great many of high-risk unsecured loans along with their other products. At least they loaned $7K to me and it should have been clear that at the time I was pretty well strapped.

            Cheers.
