For various reasons, I stopped paying my credit cards in April of 2006. I still get occasional phone calls.

When I am bored, I place them on hold. I just say "Yes, hold on for a second..." when they ask for me. Then, I set the receiver down near the speaker of my computer. I have a playlist with a whole bunch of strange songs from the likes of Frank Zappa, Dr. Demento, Dead Milkmen, DK, Devo, etc. It seems like the stranger / more offensive the songs, the longer they stay on hold.

When I can't set the phone down, I just let voicemail answer the call.

Eventually, they either stop calling, send the case to another internal department, or sell the debt (yet again). Some callers even scream "I AM A SUPERVISOR" or "Don't you dare....". Well, you're not MY supervisor!

Although it has been 1.5 years since my last payment, I STILL have no judgments against me. Only 1 of the cards is attempting arbitration, but that started in February and there are plenty of ways to delay that process.

Don't let them fool you into believing that they are more powerful than they really are. I'm all for wasting their time, but you might not want to do it verbally. From what I hear they can be quite crafty in regard to causing people to lose their temper, so that they don't watch their info / etc.

    Good Luck!

That is soooooo true. There's an old thread here somewhere detailing an actual Collections phone call. You wouldn't believe the info the Debtor gave up about themselves during the conversation. Unintentionally.

So do be careful what you say, or don't say, when chatting with a Collector.

People delay filing as long as possible for many different reasons.

Some live in States where Creditors can't garnish wages. If they don't own any assets, ie are Judgement Proof, they can fly under the Creditor's radar for a long, long time.

Some have on going expenses. Medical bills due to illness. Use the magic BK bullet before you absolutely have to and you screw yourself. Cause you cannot file again for a long, long time.

            Just a couple for you.
