    potential fraud on credit report...?

I was looking on my credit report today, with a new debt for collection, I did some background, maybe someone can identify them.

ACC (anyone know what this stands for?)

    Original Creditor:
    PENN FOSTER

    960 N MAIN AVE
    SCRANTON, PA 18508

Collection account. $954 past due as of Sep 2007

    Date Opened:
    07/2007

thats funny, its been opened up for only 2 months,
and already has been filed for collection.

I did a reverse address lookup, and this is
what come up for the above address.

    A & M Mortgage Brokers Incorporated, PA

my actual mortg are not in PA, and they
    are up-to-date - This is obviously a
    fraudulent account.

any ideas on who they are?

Could be Agency of Credit Control at http://www.getitpaid.com/debt-collection-ddir45.htm

Or it could be American Collection Corporation at http://www.americancollectioncorp.com/faq.asp

Or it could be another company with the initials ACC. Do you have an address for ACC?

If the debt isn't yours, then dispute it with the credit agencies as "not mine".

It seems like an odd amount to be associated with a mortgage. Generally speaking, accounts on your credit report are not, out-and-out frauds, the accounts are usually traceable to some account you had at one point. The issue is whether you actually owe on the account and to try and identify the "source" creditor.

Based on the amount, it could be nearly anything, unpaid medical bill, perhaps a school bill, cell phone, etc.

my bills are caught up...ive been getting a rash of "recent bad debt lately"

            1st 2001 account was reaged to 2007

2st this new $954 collection that just comes right
out of the blue, and its just two months old, no notices, warnings or anything.

            3rd I just got a collection letter yesterday saying I owe $150
for some energy company at an address that ive never lived at...
you want to know the weird part? its never been on my credit report
and they say the collection is from 1999...

Perhaps its an Identity theft issue (but that is probably a long shot based on your other posts since you are talking about re-aged accounts from 1999, 2000)

Without more background and info, it is really hard to say?

You have 2 options, (1) simply dispute the accounts with the CRA through the normal dispute process, (2) notify the CRA's of possible identity theft, thus, your CRA gets flagged, and put on probation, so-to-speak.

At any point in the last 7 years, did you have any accounts (magazine subscriptions, Dr's bills) that could have possibly gone unpaid. Was there a bill you had in 1999-2000 that you could possibly owe. The most common that comes to mind would be early termination of cell phone contract. Frankly, when most people on this forum post about "old" accounts, they KNOW they owe the money and are trying to identify the loophole to try and get around paying it. Thus, I am a little skeptical that you really "don't" know what the account is for.

In any event, odds are, depending on the account, the statute of limitations has probably expired, which makes the account, "legally" uncollectible. But unless your willing to take the collection agency to court over the issue, they will keep trying to collect the account.

I can dispute as "not mine" till im blue in the face, the 3 major credit agencies do not stand on the side of the consumer, unless i have a letter in hand saying they agree to remove any credit diputes, they will remain on file until the credit company deletes it... all i ever get back in the mail is "we verified it to be correct" and they verifed with who? they obviously did not verify it with me...its like the consumder doesnt matter anymore... the 3 three bad boys always takes the side of the credit company, if they do not take action, then it will remain on the report, fraud or no fraud, unless legal action is taken.

update: i found out today what the $954 was for...

it is another reaged account from 2005 that is on my credit
report for $889 - i guess it was nice of the new collection agency to bump it up - this is just crazy...

                        I have a debt from 2001 for $6,000
its been reaged to 2007 for $6,000

I did dispute the reaged 2007 account for $6,000, their response
was, this account has been verfied and is correct, and will remain
until 2008...you see the 3 agencies do not care if its a reaged account
or not, they are not on the consumers side.

                        2005 debt for $889
                        reaged to 2007 for $954

its not a wonder why i can not get my house refinanced...
instead of having old $7000 in debt, creditors are thinking
I have an addtional $7,000 in new debt...

If all you get is letters saying that the information has been verified, then you need to send them a new letter reqesting the details of how it was verified.
Usually they go back to the agancy that says you owe money. That is who you need to follow up with next.
                            Filed: 10/26/2006
                            Discharged: 03/05/2007
Closed: 5/19/2008 - Asset case due to balance transfer and income tax refund

yes, but the debt has already been posted on my credit
report for 2005 ... it was a new collection agency, and they bumped the amount up, and reaged the account.

did you not read the post above?

I do not dispute the debt i owe, i do dispute
the fact when the same debt is entered
                              twice on my credit report....
