Question about Collections

I have been getting collections call from a collections bureau. It was a bill I stopped paying in June and it was just sent to collections. My attorney said to give them her name and number and tell them we've retained her. My question is, will this speed up a lawsuit if I admit to filing bankruptcy? I haven't actually filed. I retained the attorney and plan on filing at the end of January.
