If I get one of these and have my paycheck direct-deposited to it, is it safe from anyone freezing it and emptying it, like a bank account can be?

Pre-Paid Debit Cards

Legally, a creditor COULD freeze and levy the funds on a prepaid debit card (assuming that they have already sued you and obtained a judgment). However in practice this seldom happens because the judgment creditor cannot easily locate a prepaid debit card through the channels which let them discover bank accounts--mainly checking your ChexSystems report and other credit reports for inquiries which banks place when they open a new account. Of course, a determined judgment creditor could summons you into court for a debtors inquiry, at which point you would be legally obligated to disclose the prepaid debit card (or take your chances lying in court).
