If you mean ones that arent made out to anyone. that is how they come when you buy them. For example, you can get them in whatever denomination you need, and then you fill them out to whoever.
Some people use them for budgeting purposes, if they buy several for 50 dollars or something, and leave them blank, then they just fill them out to themselves to cash, or to whoever the merchant or creditor may be .
They still have the denomination on them, but they are "blank" in the manner
that they dont have a payee name on them till you put it there.
A cashiers check however, is different in that its printed up by the bank and made out to a payee at that time. These are usually only for larger purposes like buying a car or something.

I thought I read somewhere that money orders could be purchased then amounts could be put in for when bills are due. Maybe I read it wrong. I just keep hearing using money orders are best.
Truthfully, my bk process is just beginning and I don't know what I'm doing. I know my car is exempt. I do not have alot of anything else. I rent. My divorce seams to be in the "never ending" stage, but it looks like I might be awarded $ for 'marital debt' on 1 of my credit cards. And, no it is not enough to really help me in the end. I have not consulted with bk attorneys yet, mainly because the divorce is still pending, and it looks like I may have to ammend my taxes also; I did Married but Seperate, and he wants to do Jointly.
Basically, I'm in a stand still..not sure when one will end, so I can start the next thing. So, I read and try to plan ahead.

Wal-Mart is about the cheapest place to buy MO's.
Wal-Mart puts the $$ value of each MO on them. They are blank as to who get's paid that dollar amount and who from. You fill in those parts.
Using MO's and Cashier's Checks is a good idea to do right around the time of filing. That way you don't have to worry about checks or Debit transactions not yet posted floating around that may "bounce" IF the Trustee freezes your acct for a day or so.
Very few people have had this happen. Trustee freezing accts. But it can and does happen from time to time.
Plus, the added advantage is a lower bank balance, translate "cash on hand", to have to cover with an exemption as well.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06

Yeah, I got messed up one time. I did some work for someone and they paid me by money order. Guess what I deposited into my account, it became avaliable the next day. A week later the money order was found out to be counterfeit and the people skipped town...no where to be found. So be careful because I had to pay the bank that money back.

For most things I simply use cash and then keep the receipts in case I need them later.
I only use money orders when I'm paying a routine bill by mail or I want to have a record of payment. Postal money orders are fairly easy to track, so if that is a big concern for you, then get them. But I've never had any problems using money orders so I just get the cheapies at local grocery stores. They're convenient because I'm there anyways doing some shopping.
If I'm buying something online, I just use a pre-paid VISA card or a PayPal account. Some pre-paid VISA cards are even re-loadable with cash.
They're all safe from creditors as long as they don't know you have them. The world's simplest C & D Letter:
"I demand that you cease and desist from any communication with me."
Notice that I never actually mention or acknowledge the debt in my letter.
