Discharged!!

My husband and I made our final Chapter 7 court filing fee payment on February 13th. so I've been anxiously checking Pacer every day since, waiting for our discharge. Just checked and it's finally there! What a relief!!

Now I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how soon the discharge will show up on our credit reports?

We're not planning on rushing out to get credit cards, but we do need to try to finance a vehicle ASAP. We're surrendering our only vehicle in the bankruptcy, and will need to buy another vehicle before this one gets picked up by the lender. I'm thinking we can't do that until the discharge is reporting on our credit reports.

Anyone know how long that might take?

Now, to try to answer your question, I have no idea how long it will take for the discharge to show up on your Credit reports. But I can tell you this, it is not likely at all that you will get financed for another vehicle this soon after discharge. Others may have different experiences, but when we went to purchase a used truck in 2013, FIVE years post discharged, we did have some troubles. And we have a very friendly CU. (And this can be a long story, so I won't go into it here. But if you want to search for it look for anything by 'Hub and myself posted during February 2013.)

If you can, it would be best to locate a private owner with a nice vehicle at a decent price and offer CASH, if you have some saved up. Then drive that until the wheels fall off, and by then, your credit ratings should be back in the good range.

Congrats!!!! As to the vehicle financing, we were receiving offers in the mail within 2 weeks of discharge and we have not stopped receiving offers for the last 2 years! Granted, the offers are much better now being it is 2 years later but we have know people to finance a vehicle very shortly after discharge (the interest rates were high but it was possible). Thank you everyone! Our credit reports were actually updated with the discharge the day after it was entered with the court. I will update if we have any luck buying a vehicle.

I get offers in the mail from dealers that mention the bankruptcy discharge and that they will help in financing a new car.
