I know this is a silly question, but I searched this forum and couldn't find this question or answer (which leads me to believe it's common sense and makes me feel even more stupid!) Anyway, I'm getting my paperwork together to drop off to my lawyer tomorrow. Do I have to make copies of all my bank statements, credit card statements, mortgage loan documents, insurance documents, etc., and take the photocopies to the lawyer's office, or do I take in all the originals and the lawyer will make copies and return the originals to me?
I know he will be filing the petition electronically, so maybe his office will have to make PDFs of my documents to attach to the filing. Anyway, I don't know if I should drop off all the originals to his office and trust that I'll get them all back. I'm especially worried about my original loan documents and my original social security card, which I have had for more than 40 years.
Can someone please tell me what is normal procedure? Thank you so much.
