I would not do those two things. In fact, I would not reaffirm a mortgage at all. I both discharged my mortgage AND modified my mortgage during my Chapter 7. In your particular case, you should NEVER reaffirm thinking that you could get a modification or otherwise make the loan work. If it's a bad (high interest) loan or you have no equity, then you should really not reaffirm the mortgage.
