Employment: What type of work are you in?

Hi, again. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm post-341 and am now in the 60-day club waiting for discharge.

I'm stressing out about finding work now that I have a BK on my credit record; my husband has been financially supporting me while I look for a new position.

So, I'm wondering... if you are currently employed and found your job POST-BK, in general, what type of work do you do?

I'm not asking what jobs you didn't get because I don't think you know if you were turned down due to the BK, better candidates, or other factors.

    Again, thanks for your time.

I'm a bookkeeper and I got my job about 2 months after filing. Good luck to you. It's a tough economy regardless of BK.

I am a Librarian and I have had my PT job for more than ten years. However, it is a yearly contract, that is renewed each year. Sometimes they reduce my hours, and at other times increase them. So far the BK has not come into play. We were discharged in August 2008.

A person after my own heart. I work in a middle school in the library as a assistant and being in education I never know from one year to the next if I'm gonna have a job they have cut so many school librarian jobs the last couple of years it makes me on edge ever year.

Hubby graduated from school (went back to get into another career mid life) and found 2 jobs after discharge last March. He got the first full time position about 2 weeks before graduation and then another company (he did PRN work for them) recruited him for a full time (very good money and benefits also) position this past December. He is in Healthcare, neurodiagnostics. His chapter 7 has never come up or held him back in anyway with his job search or being compensated. Good Luck!

Thanks, Drazil65! I'm actually in school right now - allied health. I know many companies do background checks - even for school - and I'm just concerned I'm not going to be "employable" because of the BK. Glad to hear that your husband hasn't had any problems finding work.

Was he in school when he filed? Any issues with clinic rotations?

Engineering Design Technician is my official title. But that's just a fancy way of saying "CAD Technician".

ETA: I started this job 13 months (almost to the day) after my discharge. I actually received and accepted the job offer about 3 weeks prior to starting.

FYI...most companies do criminal background checks and drug testing but most have stopped credit checks. I was in HR with a large bank, we stopped credit checks around 2000.

The other day I heard something quite disturbing: It seems that if you are on any type of anxiety med, or ever have been, the doctors can now upload your name to a Criminal Background Check database, and you will never know it. You just will keep being turned down for employment. And if you ever do find out why you are being blacklisted, you will have a devil of a time trying to prove your innocence.

I hope and pray that I am wrong, but I fear that I am correct.

AngelinaCat...I believe that you may have heard wrong...you are protected under HIPAA Privacy Rule. As I said, I worked in HR for a long time and that never, ever came up. Most companies are interested in criminal background checks and drug testing only. Back in the 90's I did see many turned down for employment (mostly tellers) because of bad credit. As I said, they stopped doing credit checks around 2000. Now days so many are on anti depressants everyone would be unemployable!! LOL!!
