    I think the idea is that the sweeping majority of below-median-filers will not have enough DMI anyway - and if there is some left over, it is unlikely to be significant enough that additional (reasonable) expenses can't be considered or added to bring the amount below $100-195. So passing the means test should posit a straight Ch.7 filing.

    You may notice that IRS allowable expenses are very close to the median in many states. When I play around with the numbers, getting under $100 in my own case is not particularly difficult, EVEN without additional expenses considered.

    Experienced bankruptcy attorneys should know which amounts are normally considered 'reasonable and necessary' for a given family size in their district.

    In the case of OP, I would like to see an attorney help clear this hurdle because if he/she plans to (or must) change living arrangements in the next 3-5 years, a Ch.13 plan would likely fail.
