    Newbie with a question

My husband and I are from Michigan and have had to resort to filing Chapter 7bankruptcy, ruling out all our debt options. To make ends meet I sell clothes, toys, ect.. on Ebay. I have been an ebay member for almost 8 years selling on and off when times got tough. My husband has recently had his work hour cut so I've been active selling on ebay for 3 weeks. When we met with our lawyer on Friday I didnt even think of that small income. We have retained our lawyer but our case has not been filed yet. I plan to tell him about the ebay selling but it's going to drive me nuts til Tuesday. I've made about 70 bucks a week for 3 weeks, which would not bring us close to median if that continued. So, my question, Can I sell on Ebay? I use paypal with the money I make being deposited into my checking account. Any help is appricated. Thanks, Topaz

    I gotta ask,............

Are you selling used things. Things your kids have out grown. Toys they don't use anymore. That kind of thing?

If that's the case, then you don't have to worry about it as income. You buy the stuff use it, and then sell for less than you paid. I sold jewelry to help us keep afloat. The attny asked how much I paid originally. I had the receipts for how much I sold for. Much lower. And the bank statements show the money going in the bank acct and back out to pay bills.

Now if you're going to the Tiffany's Outlet Store, or some other outlet, like Vera Bradley bags, buying wholesale or knock down price, and making profit, that may be a different story.

It's really gonna depend on what kind of eBay selling you're doing.

Very curious to know what you are selling on Ebay and making $70 per week. Some of those power sellers make a great living. I sold some books on Ebay over the last few months, making an average of $50.00 per week...unfortunately, I ran out of books.

I'm selling mostly clothing. Clothing I have that I dont wear any longer. I have a few family members giving me clothes to sell to help us out.

If you were selling the items at a profit compared to the price you purchased them, the net profit would be considered income. Since this is not the case, you are simply selling your posessions at a loss and that is not 'income'.
